Easy as a ‘Kayak’ in the Park or a Walk Around the Fence

NAD Marine Park
Water side of NAD Marine Park, Bremerton, WA where it joins Jackson Park Housing, now known as The Landings.

This morning I pulled the kayak off the dock and took a little paddle down towards Marine NAD Park at the end of our street. It is the same park where the gate was closed by the US Navy about a month ago and that has been in the local newspapers. The closing of the gate has made it so those who ride bikes to work from North of Bremerton to Downtown Bremerton and PSNS have to ride around down the highway. Mom’s with strollers, folks with their dogs, kids on bikes and so forth can no longer ride through. It’s really sad.

The powers that be claim they closed the gate for security reasons, but a person can walk around at low tide, paddle around at high tide, walk around the fence/gate any time, or walk up over the hill through the woods to walk around. Locking the gate is ludicrous.

We have a petition going to convice the folks running what was Jackson Park at the other end of our park to re-open the gate which has been open for the last 30 years. Next Saturday at 1:00 p.m., Josh Farley of the Kitsap Sun will be hosting/leading a Story Walk through the Park. Be sure to register for the event, as it will be well attended. Walk, drive or carpool because parking is extremely limited.  Here is the link to register for the Story Walk: http://pugetsoundblogs.com/bremertonbeat/story-walk/

It’s a shame the gate is closed. Help us get it back open by signing the petition.

Thanks so much,

Laura
