Back in the day, school did not open until after Labor Day Weekend

I’m not as crazy as people think…

…at least about the start date of school being after Labor Day Weekend!

school-busBack in the day, in the 60’s and 70’s, schools in Maryland did not open until after Labor Day Weekend. It allowed students to compete at fairs; families had one last vacation weekend out at the shore or at state parks, and that brought some serious bucks to communities.

Now, the State of Maryland insures schools do not open until after Labor Day, just as the neighboring State of Virginia has had in place for years.

Gov. Larry Hogan signed an executive order requiring Maryland public schools to start classes after Labor Day and end their school year by June 15. The measure will take effect with the 2017-2018 academic year. http://patch.com/…/maryland-school-start-date-governor-orde…

whyTo all of you who started school today, instead of Tuesday, September 6, I feel your pain at not having five more glorious days of summer.

School and head lice are on parents mind as school commences, so I cannot help putting in a plug for our Tea Tree Peppermint Shampoo. It is the absolute best in keeping head lice a bay.
